These are designed to be an inexpensive 'card and gift in one', for when you'd like to send more than a card but not an expensive gift. The pendant is made from a slice of real wood, laser engraved on one side with the design and then treated with linseed oil. The adjustable necklace/thong is made from waxed cotton cord and silver-plated copper wire. Handmade by Ravenwood.

The Stonecrop design (also known as Sedum) on the pendant has been chosen due to its association with Peace or Tranquillity in the Victorian flower language (more about this below).

The A6-sized card is made using 100% recycled Kraft card, includes information on flower languages and the meaning of the pendant, and the following poem by Reverend R. W. Evans:

There from his rocky pulpit, I heard a cry
The Stonecrop: See how loose to earth I grow,
And draw my juicy nurture from the sky ...

The pendant and card are wrapped in recycled tissue paper and enclosed in a sturdy 100% recycled box (which will go through the post as a 'large letter' in Royal Mail sizes). There's also an outer wrapper, made from from biodegradable corn and potato starch, to protect it from moisture.

Please note that as the pendant is created using a real wood slice, some imperfections in the wood and surrounding bark will occur from time to time. This is simply a result of using real wood and is not a fault. Each slice is individually crafted and therefore no two are the same; the item in the product images will not be the exact item you receive. They vary in size between 3cm and 5cm in diameter.

More about Flower Languages

Flower languages have been used at various times during human history, most recently during Victorian times as a method of having a conversation which, due to the etiquette of the time, could not be discussed openly. Each flower had a particular meaning and they could be given either in isolation or together with other flowers to convey subtle undertones. Being fully conversant in the language was a sign of good breeding!
