Collection: Posters by John William Waterhouse
Born on 6th April 1849 in Rome, and given the nickname 'Nino' as a child, John William Waterhouse was the son of two English painters who had moved to Italy to develop their art. The family moved back to England during the late 1850's, and the young John William Waterhouse worked with his father in his studios, where he developed talents in both sculpting and painting.
Examples of paintings by John William Waterhouse. Some of his earlier works focused on the themes and scenes of his birthplace, Italy. Later on his works reflected the styles and themes of the Pre-raphaelites such as Alma-Tadema and Frederick Leighton. He went on to paint over 200 paintings depicting classical mythology, particularly Roman mythology, and literary subjects such as the poetry of Keats and Tennyson. A theme commonly found in his works is that of the Femme Fatale. Most of the women he painted were beautiful and elegant, and in many paintings, men were their victims!
Unusually in the art world, Waterhouse became popular and financially stable while he was still alive. Some of his works were bought by Australia's prestigious museums, and this gave Waterhouse enough financial stability to marry. So in 1883, Waterhouse married Esther Kenworthy, the daughter of an art schoolmaster and an artist in her own right, and together they rented an apartment in the Primrose Hill Studios, in London. A few years later, and with greater financial means, they purchased a home in St. John's Wood, London.
John William Waterhouse continued to paint until his death on the 10th February 1917, and his grave can be found in Kensal Green Cemetery, London.

Wanted a nice card for a dear friend, and this was perfect. The service from Moondragon is speedy, efficient, professional and always 5 Star.

This card complimented the others I had bought. I have them all together in my book room.

I felt I could not part with it. It is a lovely card to meditate on.

I purchased as a birthday card, it was very well received. I liked it so much I found it hard to gift it.

Great quality, and size for a greeting card, but fun to frame, too. The artwork is exquisite. Looking forward to sending this out at Winter Solstice. Dealing with Moondragon is a treat. Reputable, excellent service, and fast delivery. Thanks to the Moondragon team for shipping to Canada, too.

This card is, for me, a real delight. I am a crone, and I love cats and Autumn. How wonderful to have a Wise Woman depicted on a card who suits both the season, and my stage of life. Great artwork. I look forward to sending this card to my friends at Samhain, this year. The quality is excellent, too. I will order from Moondragon again. Dealing with them was a good experience.

I was happy to find the quality of the Winter Silhouettes cards to be excellent. Buying on line, one is never sure. The gold envelopes add to this exquisite artwork. In a word - elegant. I look forward to sending them to friends at the next winter solstice.

All my friends and family love receiving these cards. They are unique and my friends even keep the envelopes.

I absolutely love this card and its artwork ❣️
